Meta’s Instagram orders employees to return to office five days a week

Instagram has introduced a new privacy setting that puts all new and existing underage accounts into auto-private mode by default.

Instagram will require U.S.-based employees to work in the office five days a week. meta It was confirmed on Monday.

The new return-to-office policy goes into effect on February 2 and is aimed at fostering a more creative and collaborative work environment, according to a report in Sources Newsletter, citing an employee memo from Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri.

The report also noted that Mosseri aims to reduce the number of meetings in the photo-sharing department and wants employees to show off more product prototypes rather than decks. This refers to formal written notes and related documents.

A Meta spokesperson told CNBC that the new RTO policy applies only to Instagram and not to the company’s other family of apps, such as Facebook and WhatsApp.

Meta instituted a return-to-office mandate in September 2023, requiring employees across its family of apps to work in a physical office at least three days a week. This was similar to other company policies at the time. Amazon and Google’s parent company alphabet.

In recent days, tech companies and other companies have begun requiring employees to work in the office five days a week, a move executives generally characterize as a way to remove layers of organization and improve collaboration in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

In January 2025, Amazon introduced a five-day work week. Other companies are also pushing back-to-office. AT&T, boeing and Dell Technologies.
