Television presenter Laura Woods said she was “okay” after collapsing during a live broadcast of England’s friendly against Ghana.
Woods was leading pre-match broadcast coverage pitchside at St Mary’s Stadium when he stumbled forward and pundits Ian Wright and Anita Asante moved quickly to catch him as he fell.
ITV went into a commercial break and when coverage resumed, her colleague Katie Shanahan appeared in her place and said Woods had “taken ill”.
“Well, that was a little weird,” Woods later wrote on his Instagram Story.
“I’m sorry to worry you all, but I’m fine. The Saints’ wonderful paramedics say it’s probably a virus and I need some rest and hydration.”
“I’m really embarrassed that something like this happened on TV, but I’m so grateful to my colleagues at ITV who looked out for me tonight. And I’m sorry again to Righty and Neets for getting me.”
Woods’ fiancée, Adam Corrado, went out of his way to allay fans’ fears, writing on the reality show X: “Lola is okay and is with the right people. Thank you for your kind messages.”
Woods is a regular presenter of men’s and women’s soccer matches on ITV and TNT Sports.
ITV posted on X to wish Woods a “speedy recovery,” as did the Lionesses, who won 2-0 thanks to a goal from Lucia Kendall and a late penalty from Alessia Russo.
