One of the highlights of the sporting calendar will be held at Alexandra Palace this December and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports, but how much do you know about the Paddy Power World Darts Championship?
A record 128 players will feature in the latest edition, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports’ dedicated darts channel from December 11 (Sky Channel 407 from December 10), with the winner taking home £1 million of the record £5 million prize pool.
Reigning world champion Luke Littler is aiming to become the fourth player to win back-to-back world championships after defeating Michael van Gerwen in last year’s final and finishing runner-up to Luke Humphries in 2024.
Littler has won the British Open, World Match Play, World Grand Prix, Grand Slam of Darts and The Players Championship since his success at the World Championships in January and will be the pre-tournament favorite to lift the Sid Waddell Trophy again.
Humphries and Van Gerwen are among those likely to challenge him, with Stephen Bunting, Johnny Clayton, James Wade, Gerwyn Price and Josh Lock all chasing wins.
World Youth Championship winner Jan van Veen will be looking to build on his victory at the European Championships earlier this year, with Beau Greaves leading a strong women’s squad in this year’s line-up.
Phil Taylor has the most wins at the World Darts Championship, with Raymond van Barneveld also one of the players to have won multiple times, and darts celebrations regularly produce some of the most memorable victories in the history of the sport.
