Buckingham Palace says King Charles III will detail some of his cancer experiences in a video message to be broadcast on British television on Friday night.

Prince Charles, 77, will “stress the importance of cancer screening programs that allow for early diagnosis and reflect on his own road to recovery,” the palace said.

The British monarch revealed in February 2024 that she had been diagnosed with cancer. The palace announced that the cancer was discovered after undergoing corrective surgery for an enlarged prostate the previous month.

A royal source told CNN at the time that the form of cancer detected was not prostate cancer, but declined to elaborate further.

Charles took a temporary break from official duties to begin his weekly outpatient clinic, but continued to carry out his duties and then returned to a busy diary of official duties and overseas visits.

His first public engagement after his diagnosis was in April last year when he visited the Macmillan Cancer Center at University College Hospital in London, where he met patients and clinicians.

The King’s outing comes as he was announced as the new patron of Cancer Research UK. He has also been a patron of Macmillan Cancer Support for almost 30 years.

Friday’s message was filmed at Clarence House in late November and is part of Stand Up To Cancer 2025, a joint campaign between Cancer Research UK and British broadcaster Channel 4.

The episode will be broadcast on the network on Friday at 8pm (3pm ET) and then uploaded to the royal family’s YouTube channel.
