Jake Paul has admitted that he broke his jaw in two places during his loss to Anthony Joshua in Miami.

The pair met in a heavyweight contest in the American city, with the British superstar slamming Paul into the canvas twice in the fifth and sixth rounds, but the American was unable to beat the count.

“Both jaw fractures. Return Canelo in 10 days,” Paul wrote above a screenshot of an X-ray showing the fracture.

Paul did not address the media at the post-fight press conference as he sought treatment for his injury, but Nikisa Bidalian, CEO of Paul’s promoter, Most Valuable Promotions, said: “He is OK. He drove himself to the hospital. Broken jaws are common in sports, especially in boxing and mixed martial arts.”

“I’ve already talked to doctors and surgeons and they think the recovery time will be four to six weeks.”

Paul barely landed a shot in the bout, which was scheduled to last eight rounds at Caseya Center, but he showed admirable heart to hold on until the end even as Joshua began to barrage.

The 28-year-old YouTuber revealed he thought he had broken his jaw as he coughed up blood from his mouth during his post-match interview.

“I feel good, it was fun,” he said. “I love this sport, I gave it my all…it was so much fun.

“Anthony is a great fighter, I’ve been through a lot, but that’s what this sport is about.

“By the way, I think my jaw is broken…definitely broken. A great ass cry from one of the greatest of all time.”

“We’re going to recover from a broken jaw, fight someone in my own weight, and aim for the cruiserweight world title.

“I’m going to take a little break. I’ve worked hard for six years.”

Although Joshua celebrated the victory, he expressed frustration that it took him until the end of six rounds to finish.

The former world heavyweight champion also praised Paul’s durability.

“I wish I could have knocked him out first,” Joshua said. “Jake has the mentality, he has the heart, and he did his best.

“A lot of fighters haven’t been in the ring with me, but Jake has. Even when he was down, he kept trying to get back up. Hats off to him.”

What’s next for Jake Paul?

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn praised Paul for getting up after the fight-ending punch, but balked at how difficult it would be for a boxer to properly recover from a broken jaw.

“Injuries like that are very difficult to come back from, but like AJ said, that last shot would have knocked out a lot of heavyweights,” Hearn said.

“It was a very one-sided fight. It’s always going to be a one-sided fight, but I can’t give him anything but praise and respect. He gave it his all with Anthony Joshua, took a lot of punishment, finished the fight, and ultimately got back on his feet after the stoppage.”

“I think he needs to see physically what’s going on with that jaw. We don’t know the severity, but it’s a very difficult injury to come back from. But he’s shown he’s capable. That’s what we said. He’s committed to the game.”

But Joshua believes Paul has the desire and ability to come back from a knockout, even though he doesn’t think he’s in the top tier of fighters.

“Jake Paul has been boxing at an elite level for about five years and has endured the pressure of it,” Joshua said.

“America, I think you have someone potentially, if he’s still up for it, who could come back, dust off his shoulder, come back and sell this center out against Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia, maybe sometime in 2026, who knows?

“I’m not going to say ‘world class,’ because there are probably four, five, six, seven Anthony Joshuas in the modern era who can punch, who can avoid punches, who know what they’re doing in the ring.

“Jake is going to struggle at the top level, but if he wants to stay here, I think there’s a place for him in boxing, so I give him and his team credit for getting him this far.”
