Newcastle striker Yoan Wissa has promised more after his start to life on Tyneside was blighted by injury.
Ouissa joined from Brentford in the summer for £55 million and scored his first goal for the club in the Carabao Cup against Fulham.
Just days after signing, Wissa suffered a knee injury in DR Congo during pre-season, but is now fully recovered and hopeful of a return after being sidelined for more than three months.
He told Sky Sports: “There’s a lot that’s definitely going to happen. Like I said, I’m not at my perfect peak yet. It’s going to take a few weeks to build up and I know there are steps to achieve.”
“But I know who I am. I’m a hard worker. I love playing football. And yes, I want to score a lot of goals here. And I know I’m not 100 percent, but there’s definitely a lot I can do.”
“I hope we get a lot of goals, a lot of assists and a lot of wins. That’s what we need right now. We need a lot of momentum right now because the season is getting tougher and tougher.”
“We need a lot of momentum and for myself, we need a lot of goals and happy moments. This is exactly what I need right now.
“It was a strange start[to life in Newcastle]but this is my destiny. But like I said, I’m glad I had this moment after the injury because it gave me time to settle down here with my family.”
“But it was frustrating at times, especially in the last four weeks after my rehabilitation, because I really wanted to be at this club.
“But I think we used our time perfectly and were able to come back stronger.”
Wissa: Signed with 10 seconds left!
Newcastle’s signing of the forward was one of the key transfer stories of the summer window.
The deal was completed on deadline day after the Magpies rejected multiple offers, with the striker even taking to Instagram to express his frustration at a move that never materialized despite pushing for a move from Brentford.
Reminiscing about Window’s last day, Wissa said: “I traveled from London and left home at 3am. I drove to Newcastle and arrived around 7am and couldn’t sleep for more than an hour.
“My agent called me and told me I was almost done, so I went back to the practice field. I came here and spent the whole day, taking photos and videos. It was a pretty long day, about 12 p.m.
“I was going to sign at 3 p.m., and then 6 p.m., 7 p.m., still nothing, nothing, nothing. So I have to extend it from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and nothing. I started calling my agent, saying, ‘What’s going on?’ And they were just like, ‘Negotiations go back and forth.’
“I signed with 10 seconds left. I was very happy, I was really happy and I was looking forward to going to the national team. I couldn’t do anything in the first game, I was injured in the second game, but like I said, I couldn’t do anything. I couldn’t afford to get injured here and I couldn’t afford to get injured when I came to Newcastle.”
