Google previews new Gemini features for TVs at CES 2026

Google believes that AI can improve the TV viewing experience, which is why we introduced Gemini AI to Google TV devices in November. The company is currently showing off a series of new Gemini features coming to TVs soon at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2026) in Las Vegas. This will allow viewers to delve deeper into topics, use AI to search and “reimagine” their personal photos and videos, and perhaps best of all, tell the TV what to do instead of having to navigate complicated settings.

The company will bring these Gemini features and more to select TCL TVs first, then roll them out more widely to other Google TV devices in the coming months.

Designed for the big screen experience, Gemini for Google TV lets users use natural language conversations to talk to their TV to find what they want to watch, get summaries of their favorite series, get recommendations, and more. For example, you can ask your Gemini to watch something that combines your tastes, or you can ask your Gemini to help you remember a show or movie you can’t remember the title of, but can explain the plot or name the actors.

You can also ask Google questions like, “What new hospital drama is everyone talking about?”

Gemini can respond to user questions through a new visually rich framework that adapts to individual queries, combining text, images, video context, and real-time sports updates as needed.

But Google believes your TV screen can be used for more than just entertainment. For Gemini, television can also be used for education.

At CES, Google showed how this works. Users can ask questions about what they want to know and learn more about that topic right on their TV screen. A narrated, interactive overview simplifies concepts and allows users to ask follow-up questions to learn more.

Gemini allows users to query their Google Photos library for specific people or moments. Google says you can also use Gemini AI to apply artistic styles to your photos and videos, turning your memories into cinematic slideshows.

But perhaps the most useful feature is the ability to optimize your TV settings using just your voice.

Now you can tell Gemini things like “the screen is too dark” or “I can’t hear the dialogue” and Gemini will adjust the relevant settings without you having to quit the movie or TV show you’re watching and dig through menus to find the option you want.

Google says that to take advantage of Gemini’s new features, Google TV devices must be running Android TV OS 14 or later and have an internet connection. Not all languages, countries, or devices are supported at launch. Users also need a Google Account to access the Gemini for TV experience.
