google’s parent company alphabet market capitalization exceeded apple’s First time since 2019.

Alphabet’s market cap ended Wednesday at $3.88 trillion. Alphabet stock rose more than 2% on Wednesday, closing at $322.03. Meanwhile, Apple stock has fallen more than 4% over the past five days, ending Wednesday with a market capitalization of $3.84 trillion.

The market capitalization reversal highlights the different directions Alphabet and Apple are heading in terms of their respective artificial intelligence strategies.

Alphabet finished 2025 as one of Wall Street’s top performers after gearing up for an AI resurgence. In November, the company announced Ironwood, the seventh generation of its tensor processing unit. This is a custom AI chip that has emerged as a potential replacement. Nvidia’s An offering. Then in December, Google announced Gemini 3 to rave reviews.

Alphabet’s stock price rose 65% in 2025, the steepest rise since 2009, when the stock doubled as the company emerged from the financial crisis.

CEO Sundar Pichai has repeatedly said the company is responding to a surge in demand. On Alphabet’s October earnings call, he said Google’s cloud business had more deals worth more than $1 billion between 2025 and the third quarter of this year than in the previous two years combined.

Meanwhile, Apple is largely absent from the tech industry’s AI race that began with OpenAI’s launch of ChatGPT in late 2022.

Apple was scheduled to launch the next generation of its Siri AI assistant last year, but ultimately postponed its release. Apple promises to launch a “more personal Siri” in 2026.

Wall Street firm Raymond James this week downgraded Apple’s credit rating, saying it would be difficult to make a profit in 2026.
