Global defense stocks rose on Thursday, extending their gains after US President Donald Trump called for a $1.5 trillion defense budget in 2027.

“After long and difficult negotiations with senators, congressmen, secretaries, and other political representatives, we have determined that in the interest of our country, the military budget for 2027 should not be $1 trillion, but rather $1.5 trillion, especially during these extremely difficult and dangerous times,” he said in a TruthSocial post late Wednesday.

“This will allow us to build the ‘army of our dreams’ to which we have long enjoyed the right, and more importantly, it will keep us safe and secure regardless of our adversaries.”

President Trump has since said the United States would control Venezuela’s oil indefinitely and renewed his rhetoric about acquiring Greenland.

Approximately 30 million to 50 million barrels of sanctioned Venezuelan oil will be delivered to the United States and sold at market prices, President Trump said. The profits will be managed by him and used “to ensure they are used to benefit the people of Venezuela and the United States.”
