Daniel Dubois will spoil Tyson Fury’s return with his “tremendous” punching power, says new trainer Tony Sims.
Dubois ended his reign as IBF heavyweight champion when he was stopped by Oleksandr Usyk in a rematch in July, but the 28-year-old is now teaming up with Sims and aiming for a new major fight in 2026.
Following back-to-back losses to Usyk, Fury announced his plans to return this year, with an opponent and fight date to be determined.
But Sims believes Dubois remains a serious threat to Fury, telling Sky Sports: “I think Daniel can beat anyone. His power is incredible. We all know that.”
“In the heavyweight scene, anyone can beat anyone.
“Daniel can beat Tyson Fury and his opponent.
“This is going to be an interesting year to see who plays who.”
Arslanbek Makhmudov, who suffered a heartbreaking points loss to Dave Allen in his last fight, is reportedly being considered as a potential opponent for Fury.
Trainer Gary Logan felt that Mahmudov was the best choice for Fury’s return, saying: “I would choose Mahmudov. Makhmudov is a good fighter. He performed really well in his last fight with Dave Allen.”
Logan: Mahmudov doesn’t hide from Fury.
“He’s vulnerable, but he’s not going to hide. We’ll see how much that fight (with Allen) took out of him.”
“If Fury needs a style that looks good against someone who doesn’t really have to look for someone who has punch and has a sense of danger, then Mahmudov is the man.
“I think it was a good fight. Fury is so good that if you fight him in a market stall down the road, people will still go see him fight.”
“Tyson Fury has been great at the box office. It’s great to have him back and this fight is going to happen. I think Mahmudov is a good fit for him and there’s no need to go looking for him. I think it’s going to be an interesting fight.”
Fury has been posting daily updates on his preparations on social media.
He plans to weigh less than 19 stone for his 38th fight and posted footage of himself jogging across a field with a wooden log on his shoulders before taking part in a training run.
