Manchester City were left stunned by a disastrous 2026 after Bodo/Glimt produced a brilliant attacking performance to secure a shock 3-1 win in the Champions League.

Manager Josep Guardiola would have thought a trip to Norway would be a chance to fight back after defeat in the Manchester derby at the weekend, but City were unable to maintain their dominant form against Bod/Glimt, leaving their top-eight hopes in jeopardy.

In their first win against England in a European competition, the Norwegians easily overcame Man City’s makeshift defence, with Kasper Hogg surprising the Premier League side with two goals (22 and 24) in just under two minutes.

A stunning goal from Jens Petter Hauge extended the hosts’ advantage, but City’s problems continued after the break.

Bodo/Glimt threatened to add another point as Haakon Evgen’s goal was disallowed and his hat-trick was disallowed due to an offside flag. Hauge also hit the crossbar with a long-range shot and City looked like they had a chance.

Rayan Cherki opened the scoring for City, but the team’s problems worsened as Rodri was captain on the night and was sent off after just 53 seconds.

It was a difficult night for City, who had already booked their place in the play-off knockout stages, but their hopes of finishing in the top eight of the league table and avoiding a hectic fixture schedule at Farb Alley were at stake ahead of next week’s final game against Galatasaray at the Etihad.

More to come…
