Thomas Frank: Tottenham manager under pressure says Borussia Dortmund’s ‘magical’ win shows ‘we are on the same page’ | Soccer News

Under-pressure Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank hailed the club’s “magical” home victory over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League as proof the club was “all on the same page”.

Spurs beat 10-man Dortmund 2-0 with first-half goals from Cristian Romero and Dominic Solanke, lifting Frank’s side into the top eight for automatic qualification.

But their domestic performance has put pressure on the Danes, with last Saturday’s home defeat to London rivals West Ham prompting boos and chants of “fired in the morning” from fellow countrymen.

Former Spurs captain Michael Dawson believes Frank silenced a few critics with win over Dortmund

Despite a turbulent week that saw his future put in serious doubt during discussions with club executives over Monday lunch, Frank bounced back on Tuesday night as Spurs fans cheered on their team for the first time in 2026 after starting the new year without a win in five games.

“That energy between the fans and players was magical,” he said in the post-game press conference.

Asked if this performance proved he was worth persisting, Frank said with a smile: “I think it’s about the team and everything, but of course I understand the question.”

“I always feel like the staff is with us, I think the players are with us, the owners are with us, everyone wants the same thing and we’re all on the same page.

“We’ve done a lot of things in the right direction and today was a great performance and a big win. Of course we’re very aware of that, but we’re also very aware of what we’ve been doing and we need to maintain that consistency and change it a little bit.”

“Like I said, there were some other games that we could have easily won and now we have to work on this.

“And I think that’s a very good sign when you’re looking at a team that’s running very hard. It’s a healthy sign of the culture and we’re building something little by little.”

“We could have easily gotten better results in the last three games and we just didn’t, but we’re running hard.

“I think the important thing is to build on this with our performance and win against Burnley.”

Asked how he would celebrate, Frank said: “I think I’m going to need a couple of big glasses of red wine. I’m going to enjoy it.”

Solanke: “Dortmund’s win will give us momentum against Burnley”

Attention now turns to Saturday’s trip to the Premier League against relegation-threatened Burnley, but for Frank, only a win will be satisfying.

Spurs sit 14th in the Premier League and a loss at Turf Moor would leave them just seven points above the drop zone.

Solanke’s first goal of the season in his first start will be a big boost for Frank heading into the game against Scott Parker’s side. And the striker hopes the win against Dortmund will give Spurs “momentum” ahead of this weekend’s showdown.

Asked if this win could be the turning point in what has been a pretty disastrous season for Spurs so far, Solanke told TNT Sports:

“We have performed very well in the Champions League and if you look back at our performance last season and in the Europa League, it definitely gave the team confidence.

“We know we haven’t done well enough in the Premier League this year, so we hope this will give us another boost and allow us to grow in the league and qualify for the Champions League.”

“It’s important that everyone is together, players, staff, fans. We are one club and we all want the same thing. We need to perform on the pitch like we did tonight and hopefully we can continue this momentum.”
