Szoboszlai is now a Liverpool superstar

Mohamed Salah returned to Liverpool’s starting lineup against Marseille for the first time since his bombshell interview in December. It looks like he still has a role to play this season. However, the team currently has another key player in Dominik Szoboszlai.

The midfielder endured a tough week and scored for Barnsley in the FA Cup before being ruled out against Burnley. But when Liverpool won a free-kick in shooting range towards the end of the first half at the Stade Velodrome, he made it clear to Salah who was going to take it.

“I love his confidence,” Steven Gerrard, who knows a thing or two about taking on Liverpool’s responsibilities, told TNT Sport. “Most players who hear Mo Salah would step aside and respect that, but I love the way he says, ‘There’s no chance.’

Of course, what followed was a deft shot that went under the wall and into the net, giving Liverpool the decisive lead. Szoboszlai added three assists in his fourth of seven Champions League appearances this season.

Following his sensational strike against Arsenal earlier this season, he became the first Liverpool player to score more than one free-kick in a season since Trent Alexander-Arnold, who left the club in 2022/23. His latest work has once again attracted attention. Salah is back, but Szoboszlai is the talisman of this team now.

Caicedo once again demonstrates all-round excellence

Chelsea's Moises Caicedo celebrates his goal against Paphos

Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo celebrates his goal against Paphos

Moises Caicedo’s quality and wide range of skills are well known, but his performance in Chelsea’s narrow but important win against stubborn Paphos epitomized many of his attributes.

He ultimately sealed the match with a header from a flicked corner kick with 12 minutes remaining. This was the fourth shot on target of the match, and the visiting goalkeeper twice struck sharply before the break to stop Caicedo’s shot. This is the most shots on target he has had in a game for Chelsea.

He was joint-top with Enzo Fernandes in terms of chances created, but only centre-backs Benoît Badiashile and Wesley Fofana had more touches. Only Fofana received more minutes. Caicedo is a player who can do it all.

The midfielder has so far played all available minutes under Rosenior. He missed Arsenal’s draw due to suspension, but that was the only game the new head coach did not win.

While the defense has been readjusted and the attackers rotated, Caicedo has been a constant and essential part of this Chelsea team.

Guimarães injured after ‘electrifying’ night at Newcastle

It was a special night at St James’ Park, fueled by excitement as Newcastle secured an important victory that boosts their chances of securing automatic Champions League qualification.

But Bruno Guimarães’ injury will leave a bitter taste in Eddie Howe’s mouth – and it was felt in his press conference.

After confirming the captain’s ankle problem and revealing that swelling had already appeared, Howe admitted it was a “worry” for the club.

It may be underestimated. Newcastle’s next four games will consist of Aston Villa, Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool and Manchester City. Only the first match will be shown live on Sky Sports this Sunday.

Guimarães has been a regular part of the squad throughout this season and it is worrying to think that they will be going into that game without their captain and star player.

Sunday, January 25th 1:00 p.m.

Kickoff at 2pm

“I hope it’s nothing serious,” Howe added. “We will do everything in our power to get him back to health as quickly as possible.”

Luis Miley continued to wear the armband in his place that night, but asking him to fill the void Guimarães is expected to miss is an impossible task.
