Tottenham have no plans to allow Micky van de Ven to leave the club, with the club planning to negotiate a deal with the defender.

The Dutch international has three and a half years left on his current contract, which expires in the summer of 2029.

However, Tottenham’s intention is to discuss improving his contract with Van de Ven’s agent.

So far, no formal negotiations have taken place.

Van de Ven scored two goals in the win against Everton this season.

On Thursday, reports emerged that the 24-year-old is pushing for a move away from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer.

Asked about the club’s reported price tag of more than £100m for Van de Ven, manager Thomas Frank told a press conference on Thursday: “Mickey is and will always be a Tottenham player because he is very important to us.”

Asked about reports that Van de Ven was unhappy at Spurs, Frank said: “I just met Mickey today. He looks very happy, he’s smiling. When we were in the changing room after the game, he was very happy after we won.”

“Mickey is a great player and a great ambassador for this club.

“He is potentially having his best season yet. He is fit, strong, defends well, is developing as a leader and is scoring goals. He is a very important player for us this season and for the future.”

Van de Ven has established himself as one of Tottenham’s star players since joining from Wolfsburg in a £43m deal in August 2023.

He is also a fan favorite and played a key role in Spurs’ Europa League win last season, scoring an acrobatic goal-line clearance that ultimately helped them beat Manchester United 1-0 in Bilbao.

Van de Ven has enjoyed an injury-free season this season, scoring six goals in 29 games in all competitions.

Van de Ven to return against Burnley

Van de Ven has a contract with Spurs until the summer of 2029.

Van de Ven was suspended for midweek’s Champions League home game against Borussia Dortmund, but is due to return to Burnley for Saturday’s Premier League away trip, taking some pressure off head coach Franck.

Spurs sit 14th in the table and head to Turf Moor, currently expected to miss out on European football.

However, with Lukas Bergvall ruled out for the time being with an ankle injury, Frank’s options remain limited.

Joao Parinha is also a doubt for the visit to second-placed Burnley, with Spurs remaining without Ben Davies, Rodrygo Bentancur, James Maddison, Mohamed Kudus, Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison.

Frank’s predecessor, Ange Postecoglou, had a similar story, prompting the current Spurs manager to joke that he must be cursed.

“This is definitely one of the big things because my third year in the Premier League with Brentford was a terrible year that unfortunately had a big impact on the season,” Frank said.

“So we know there’s a lot of contact injuries. Bergvall’s injury, how unlucky? There were other contact injuries too, Joan, there were some situations, Kudus.”

“Some of them are like, ‘So what’s going on here?’ It feels like we’re cursed. But injuries are part of football.”

Frank under pressure reveals another lunch with Spurs hierarchy

Frank also revealed on Thursday that he had lunch again with Nick Boucher, the powerful son-in-law of Spurs co-owner Vivian Lewis.

On Monday, when the departure of Tottenham’s head coach was in the spotlight, Bucher had lunch with CEO Vinay Venkatesham, sporting director Johan Lange and Frank.

Frank said: “I had lunch with Nick and Johan today, so I think that’s another good sign that there’s support.

“Nick came here this week. It was planned five weeks ago. So it’s normal for us to have lunch when he’s on the practice field for two days, once he’s done.”

Asked about Boucher and other key players, Frank said: “I think the most prominent ones are Vivian[Lewis]Nick and[non-executive chairman]Peter Charrington.”

“All three are extremely determined and focused on doing everything they can to help this club succeed.”
