Justin Rose, looking for his second win at Torrey Pines, surged to a four-shot lead at the halfway point of the Farmers Insurance Open.
The 45-year-old Briton added a seven-under 65 on the tougher South Course to his opening 62 on the North Course for a total of 17 under.
Rose, a Ryder Cup star, made a 15-foot birdie on No. 3, followed by an eagle from 8 feet on No. 6 and continued to improve his scores on No. 8 and No. 9.

After dropping a shot on the 12th, Rose added birdies on the 13th, 17th and last to move four places clear of Ireland’s Seamus Power.
“I knew I had a sizable lead, but I knew in my heart it wasn’t going to change the way this golf course plays,” Rose said. “You have to be respectful.

Justin Rose celebrated the second round of the Farmers Insurance Open in a spectacular and unique way.
“I felt like last year was a good step back in the right direction with confidence. I felt like I was going to be runner-up at the British Open in Troon in 2024 and I felt like I played the right way on Sunday and with Lady Luck on my side I could have won there.”
“It was the same thing at the (2025) Masters, where Saturday was the round that killed me, but I played golf to win that tournament. At the right moments, I’ve felt great.”
“I’m chasing goals, I’m chasing majors, I’m chasing big accomplishments, but I’m also trying to chase good memories.
“I’ve been doing this for a long time and I only really want to keep doing it if I’m having fun doing it and can put myself in fun situations. That’s what we’re doing right now.”
Power shot a 66 to reach 13 under, with Americans Joel Dahmen and Max McGreevy sharing third place at 11 under.
Brooks Koepka, returning to the PGA Tour, shot a five-shot 68 in the opening round to enter the tournament at 3 under.
After Koepka agreed to terminate his contract with the out-of-Saudi LIV Golf Series at the end of the 2025 season, one year early, the PGA Tour implemented a hastily created returning member program to bring the five-time major champion back to the team.
“I thought I played pretty well,” Koepka said. “The 68 was the worst shot I could have hit today. It could have easily been a 64 or a 65.
“I’m really looking forward to playing two more rounds.
“This is the first time I’ve been so congratulated for qualifying. It just feels good. I want to play two more days, challenge myself and see how I’m doing.”
Xander Schauffele missed the weekend for the first time in 73 tournaments, ending his record for longest consecutive appearance on the PGA Tour. This dates back to the 2022 Masters.
Schauffele, in particular, missed out on competing in his hometown.
“I don’t like to miss the cut, and I think my record proves that,” Schauffele said.
“But to be honest, if you’re going to pick a place, it’s kind of nice. You get to spend time with your family. … At the end of the day, this is probably the best place to get away.”
