Ring offers “Search Party” feature to help non-Ring camera owners find lost dogs

Ring’s AI-powered “Search Party” feature, which leverages the company’s camera network to find lost dogs, is now available to all Ring customers in the United States. For the first time, this feature will be available to those who don’t own a Ring camera.

Launched last fall, Search Party uses AI to find potential matches for lost dogs in neighborhood camera footage.

When a neighbor reports a lost dog in the Ring app, nearby outdoor cameras use AI to scan for potential matches. If a match is found, the owner of that camera will receive an alert and can optionally choose to share the relevant video clip with the neighbor who reported the pet missing. You also have the option to call or message the owner without sharing your phone number.

Ring said more than one dog a day has been reunited since the feature was launched.

Previously, Search Party was only available to customers who had a Ring camera installed. The company is now making Search Party accessible to everyone through the Ring app.

“Pet owners can now mobilize their entire communities to help them find lost pets more effectively than ever before,” Ring founder Jamie Siminoff said in the announcement. “That’s why we think it’s so important to make this feature available to anyone who shares a lost dog post on Neighbors,” he added, referring to the company’s Neighbors app for Ring customers.

In addition to the launch and expansion, Amazon-owned Ring said it will invest $1 million to equip animal shelters with Ring camera systems, aiming to support 4,000 shelters in the United States. The company hopes that by adding more shelters to its Ring network, more lost dogs can be reunited with their owners.
