Tottenham captain Cristian Romero said it was “disgraceful” that Spurs only had 11 players available for the game against Manchester City.
Tottenham manager Thomas Frank is under pressure, with his team languishing in 14th place in the Premier League after six games without a win. However, they came back from a two-goal deficit against City on Sunday to draw 2-2 in front of their fans.
Romero struggled in the away game to Eintracht Frankfurt in midweek, being forced off at half-time due to illness, and the Argentina international’s comments on Instagram appear to reflect his frustration with the club’s current predicament.

“Great effort from all my teammates yesterday, they were unbelievable,” Romero posted on Monday.
“Even if I wasn’t feeling well, I wanted to help them, especially since there were only 11 players available. Unbelievable but true and shameful.
“We will continue to show up, take responsibility for turning this situation around, work hard and come together. All that remains is to thank everyone who has been there and always supported us.”
This is the second time in recent weeks that Romero has aired his frustrations on social media. After Tottenham lost 3-2 to Bournemouth last month, Romero appeared to accuse the club’s hierarchy of “lies” in a post he later edited.
It was originally written like this. “In times like this, other people should come out and talk, but they don’t — and that’s been going on for years. They only show up when things are going well and tell little lies.”
The phrase “a little bit of a lie” was later removed, with Frank defending Romero’s “mistake.”
Why did Spurs have such a short tenure?
Tottenham currently have more players injured than any other team in the Premier League, with 13 players currently absent, many of them long-term.
James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski have been sidelined all season, along with Rodrygo Bentancur, Mohamed Kudus, Lucas Bergvall, Richarlison, Ben Davies, Kevin Danso and Pedro Polo.
There are also some concerns over Jed Spence, Micky van de Ven and Dominic Solanke, leaving Frank facing a further selection dilemma ahead of Saturday’s visit to Manchester United.

Tottenham added two players to their first-team squad during this period, signing Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid and young Brazilian left-back Souza from Santos. There was also interest in Antoine Semenyo, but the player opted to join Manchester City instead.
It is understood the club’s position is that better options are likely to become available in the summer, when they plan to invest heavily.
