Patrick Reed continued his strong start to the year on the DP World Tour, posting a 5-under 65 to share the lead after the opening round of the Qatar Masters.
American Reid won last month’s Hero Dubai Desert Classic but lost in a dramatic three-way playoff at the Bahrain Championship last weekend.
These tournaments took place before and after Reed announced on January 28 that he would be leaving LIV Golf and returning to the PGA Tour in 2027. Reed will be playing on the DP World Tour for the remainder of this year.
On Thursday’s opening day at Doha Golf Club, the 2018 Masters champion compiled nine birdies and two bogeys for a total of seven under par and shared the lead with New Zealand’s Daniel Hillier at the end of play.
In Hillier’s round, he took an eagle on the par-5 ninth hole.
Sweden’s Markus Kinhult, Denmark’s Jacob Skov Olesen and Finland’s Oliver Lindell all finished one stroke behind at 6 under par.
Australia’s David Micheluzzi hit a hole-in-one on the 204-yard par-3 third hole.
Ireland’s three-time major winner Padraig Harrington was also in attendance, marking his landmark DP World Tour 500th appearance.
