Essilor Lux Oticahas more than tripled meta Ray-Ban maker announced last year’s sales of artificial intelligence glasses in its fourth quarter results on Wednesday.

The French-Italian eyewear brand announced it sold more than 7 million AI glasses last year.

That’s up from the total of 2 million units the company sold in 2023 and 2024, according to its quarterly report from February last year.

The numbers reported Wednesday include smart glasses sold under the Ray-Ban and Oakley brands, the latter announced in June.

The success of the company’s smart glasses is the latest sign that adoption of wearable AI devices is gaining momentum among consumers.

“Our success in wearables is helping drive the AI glasses revolution, with our iconic brands strongly driving demand,” the company said in a release.

EssilorLuxottica has been working with social media companies to develop wearable devices since 2019, CNBC reported at the time. The companies launched the first version of the glasses in September 2021, but it wasn’t until the second generation was released in 2023 that the device gained widespread attention.

In September, EssilorLuxottica and Meta introduced new Ray-Ban products that can be controlled through hand gestures and neural technology. The device retails for $799 and features a small display in one of the lenses.

Meta announced in January that it would postpone the international launch of its Ray-Ban display glasses, originally scheduled for early 2026, due to “unprecedented” demand in the United States.

Last month, Bloomberg reported that Meta and Essilor Luxottica were in talks to double production to at least 20 million units by the end of this year to meet growing demand.

Meta has shown a willingness to cooperate with eyeglass manufacturers, extending a long-term partnership agreement in 2024 to “cooperate for the next 10 years.”
