Gerwyn Price warned his rivals that he was back playing the best darts of his career and said a major title was within reach after winning the second round of the Premier League in Antwerp.
Price defeated Michael van Gerwen 6-3 in Thursday’s final to move into second place in the Premier League, three points behind early leaders Van Gerwen.
‘The Iceman’ is a former world champion, three-time Darts Grand Slam winner and World Grand Prix winner, but now he has his sights set on ending his five-year bid for a major TV title.
The Welshman has been in great form since the start of 2026. At the Players Championship 2 in Hildesheim earlier this week, he averaged three of the top five matches, but lost to Wessel Nijman in the final and was unable to claim the title.
Price defeated finalist Jan van Veen and World Cup partner Johnny Clayton last week, ending van Gerwen’s unbeaten start to the Belgian Premier League.
“I know I’m playing well, but you still have to do it on the big stage and it doesn’t always happen like it did in the first game,” he told Sky Sports after the win.
“Gian was going for a bull to beat me, but it could have gone differently and I could have lost again and been sent home. I got through that fight, so I’m a little bit more confident.”
“I played great in Germany (The Players Championship) and I’m trying to do the same on the main stage. I was able to do that towards the end and just tried to focus. It was great. I was happy to just get two points, but five points is even better. And 10 grand!”
Price admitted he was playing the “best” game he had ever played, but said he still needed more, with world number one Luke Littler and defending Premier League champion Luke Humphries currently well ahead of the pack when it comes to silver medals.
“I think I’m playing the best I’ve ever played. I just haven’t won a tournament, but that will come someday,” the Welshman said.
“If I keep playing the way I’m playing, there’s no way I won’t be able to play in a major, Pro Tour or European (European Tour event). I just have to keep playing as much as I can and stay in good shape.”
“I don’t know why I didn’t win that tournament (The Players Championship 2)! Fair play to Wessel Nyman. He played great at darts and that’s all you have to do. If you play well at darts and win the match, you win the tournament. I’m going to win some!”
“Obviously ranking points and ranking tournaments are the top priority, but going out there week in and week out in front of the crowd and trying to perform and win and get points gives me confidence heading into the Pro Tour and the European Championship.”
“That’s probably my number one priority, but I just need to win this race to go into the Pro Tour (event) with confidence. So, yeah, that’s probably my number one priority at the moment.”
