Jamie Overton has insisted he is not worried about Jofra Archer as the England bowler looks to improve his form in the T20 World Cup.
Archer has had a checkered return from injury, reaching double-digit economy rates in his last three T20 appearances.
He built up a combined record of 8-0-90-2 against Nepal and the West Indies in Mumbai as England prepare to face Scotland and Italy in their final Group C match.
“There’s nothing wrong with him,” Overton said. “Sometimes if you match the pace with the ball and use the wicket well, the ball will fly.
“We know what a first-class bowler Joff is. I’m sure he’ll be back in the next few games, but he won’t be making that many runs.”
Archer will be part of the unchanged England squad that faces Scotland in their next Group C match in Kolkata on Saturday morning.
Captain Harry Brook also emphasized his confidence in Archer this week, as he consistently bowls over 90mph.
“No, not really (if you’re worried about Archer),” Brooke said. “We all know how good Joff is. He’s sure to bounce back. His bowling is fast and I’m sure he’ll perform even better in the upcoming matches,” Brook said.
Archer, who made a sooner-than-expected comeback from side strain following the early end of the Ashes season, had only hit 10 overs or more in six of his 35 T20s for England before this tournament.
England defeated Nepal by four runs in the opening match, but suffered a crushing defeat to West Indies by 30 runs, suffering their first defeat in nine T20 tournaments.
Brook claimed his team were “too cautious” in the 197 England Chase, particularly against the Windies, when they were reversed on spin.
“I played very well with spin in Sri Lanka (when England won both the ODI and T20 series recently),” Overton said.
“This was just one of those incidents where we were a little cautious and we didn’t execute as well as we would have liked. Things like this happen, we will learn from it and come back stronger in Kolkata.”
England need to win their final two games to ensure they qualify for the Super 8s, relying on the Windies not to slip away.
“Scotland and Italy, obviously two games we have to win and hopefully get through the group stage. We have to play well, but we are still full of belief and feel we are in the best position,” Overton said.
