The Barcelona-Catalunya circuit will remain on the F1 calendar until 2032 after a deal was agreed with the Belgian Grand Prix to host rotating events each year.

Barcelona is in the final year of its previous contract as an F1 venue, and with the addition of a race in the Spanish capital Madrid in 2026, many believed the circuit would not be retained.

But on Monday it was confirmed that Barcelona will appear on the 2028, 2030 and 2032 calendars, alongside the Madrid street race, which is scheduled to be a permanent fixture on the schedule until 2035.

The Barcelona race was held alongside the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps last year and, like this season, has been confirmed as a venue for 2027, 2029 and 2031.

The Barcelona event lost the previous Spanish Grand Prix title to the Madrid race and was renamed the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix.

In approving the new contract, F1 cited the construction of the circuit rooftop, new hospitality space and the installation of solar panels across the circuit as factors in the extension agreement.

F1 President Stefano Domenicali said: “Barcelona is a great city and the F1 fans there always welcome us passionately, so we are delighted to be able to continue racing at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit for many years to come.”

“The team has invested heavily in the circuit in recent years and hosted a fantastic fan festival, so we look forward to seeing how they continue to develop the experience, both for race participants and the city at large.”
