Katie Taylor announced her intention to retire after the summer’s game in Dublin.

Taylor, 39, retained her undisputed world super lightweight title by winning her third fight against Amanda Serrano in New York last July.

The format of her final contest and opponent is yet to be confirmed, but Taylor hopes it will be held in July at Croke Park, where the All-Ireland Hurling and Football Championships will be held.

“We’re still trying to figure out the details, but we have one more game this year,” Taylor told RTE Sport.

“This is kind of my retirement game. It’s all been a great journey for the last 20 years. That’s what we’re hoping and preparing for to play our last game. It’s going to be a great celebration.”

Former unified super welterweight champion Natasha Jonas, who hasn’t fought since March last year, has admitted only a “big event” could prompt her to return to the boxing ring.

Taylor added: “I just want to fight in Dublin to finish my career. Obviously we still want Croke Park and we’re still holding out a sliver of hope that that might happen.”

“If that doesn’t happen, there are plenty of options. Obviously we’ve fought at 3Arena a few times, and then there’s the Aviva Stadium. Croke Park would be top of the list.”

“How special would it be to play our last game in our most iconic arena? I think it would definitely be remarkable if we could do that. I don’t know if it will happen.

“Either way, I’m going to end my career here, so I’m really, really looking forward to it.”
