US oil prices rose above $100 last night after President Donald Trump threatened to attack Kharg Island, a keystone of Iran’s oil industry.

Here’s what you need to know:

President Trump said in a post on Truth Social on Friday that the United States had carried out “bombing operations” against military targets in Iran. President Trump has chosen not to damage Iran’s oil infrastructure, but said he would “reconsider” that decision if Iran disrupted traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. In an interview published over the weekend, the president told NBC News that the United States may attack Kharg Island several more times “just for fun.” The island, located about 15 miles off the coast of Iran in the northern Persian Gulf, is responsible for about 90% of the country’s oil production. Meanwhile, President Trump has been pressuring other countries to send ships to the Strait of Hormuz to help secure the vital shipping lane. A federal judge last week blocked a subpoena issued to the Federal Reserve as part of the Justice Department’s criminal investigation into Chairman Jerome Powell.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro said Friday that the Justice Department will appeal a ruling by U.S. District Judge James Boasberg that found “there is a wealth of evidence” that the subpoenas were issued to pressure the central bank to lower interest rates.

Blocking the subpoena set off a chain reaction of sorts. As the appeals prolong the Justice Department’s investigation into Powell, Sen. Thom Tillis (RN.C) will likely continue to block Kevin Warsh’s confirmation of Powell’s replacement, potentially keeping Powell in the Fed chair longer and potentially keeping interest rates high.

The rise of agent-based artificial intelligence has caused demand for NVIDIA’s CPUs to explode, leading some industry watchers to warn that the chips could soon face a supply crisis. Dion Harris, Nvidia’s head of AI infrastructure, told CNBC last week that CPUs are “the bottleneck in scaling this AI and agent workflow.”

The SAVE America Act is scheduled for a vote in the Senate this week, but President Trump’s sponsored voter ID bill faces an uphill battle to reach the 60 votes needed for passage.

Senate Democrats have vowed to oppose the bill, which would require Americans to prove their citizenship to register to vote and show a photo ID to vote. “This is horrifying,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York told reporters on Sunday. Republicans hold a 53-47 majority and will need support from Democrats to pass the bill unless lawmakers eliminate the filibuster rule.

The SAVE American Act has become an increasing focus for President Trump. The president said in a social media post last week that the bill “must be implemented immediately. It takes precedence over everything else.” “I won’t sign any other bills until this one passes,” he said.
