apple has acquired a video editing company called MotionVFX, which provides plug-ins, templates, and visual effects tools that work with Apple’s Final Cut Pro.

“We’re thrilled to share that MotionVFX has joined the Apple team and will continue to help creators and editors do their best work,” the startup said on its website on Monday. “From the beginning, we’ve focused on quality, ease of use, and great design. These are also the values we admire most in Apple products, and we’re excited to embrace them together.”

Apple declined to comment or disclose the terms of the deal.

Founded in 2009, MotionVFX offers editing packages within Final Cut Pro starting at $29 per month. This acquisition will allow Apple to directly integrate MotionVFX’s functionality instead of relying on third-party extensions.

This move could help Apple become more competitive adobe Premiere Pro continues to reduce device dependency as you add subscribers. Apple’s services business, which includes subscriptions such as iCloud, Apple Music and app bundles, generally has higher margins than hardware such as the iPhone.

In January, Apple introduced a bundle called Creator Studio that packages popular creative apps like Final Cut Pro into a $12.99 monthly or $129 annual subscription. It competes with suites such as Adobe Creative Cloud.

Apple has long shied away from large-scale acquisitions, instead acquiring many smaller companies for talent and technology that can be integrated into existing products.
