Google’s Personal Intelligence feature expands to all US users

Google announced Tuesday that it will extend Personal Intelligence, a feature that allows its AI assistant to tailor its responses by connecting across the Google ecosystem, including Gmail and Google Photos, to all users in the United States. Personal Intelligence, previously available only to paid users, is now available in AI mode in Search, the Gemini app, and Gemini in Chrome.

“Whether you’re looking for a specific brand of sneakers you’ve previously purchased, or planning a family vacation based on hotel reviews or past travel memories, personal intelligence can help you find exactly what you need without providing all the context,” Google explained in a blog post.

Personal intelligence is turned off by default, so users can choose whether and when Google apps connect to these services.

If you’re at a tire shop and don’t remember the tire size for your car, an AI chatbot can help you determine the tire size. But with personal intelligence, Gemini can go further by suggesting all-weather tires after recognizing your family’s road trip photos in Google Photos.

Or maybe you’re planning a vacation and looking for activities and places to eat that the whole family will enjoy. AI mode with personal intelligence uses your hotel reservations in Gmail and your past travel memories in Google Photos to suggest itineraries tailored to everyone. For example, Google might show you recommendations for classic ice cream parlors and other places based on the many ice cream selfies you have in Google Photos.

In another example, let’s say you’re looking for a new bag to go with the new shoes you just bought. Personal Intelligence in Chrome shows you different options based on your recent purchases and the brands and styles you prefer. Recommendations also include subtle details, such as a wallet with hardware to match your new gold shoes.

Gemini doesn’t train directly in your Gmail inbox or Google Photos library. Instead, Google says it will train based on specific prompts and model responses in Gemini or AI modes.

Personal Intelligence is available today in AI mode in Search in the US and begins rolling out in the Gemini app and Gemini in Chrome for free tier users in the US.

Google notes that these experiences are only available for personal Google Accounts and are not available to Workspace Business, Enterprise, or Education users.
