On Monday, world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka defeated Zheng Qinwen in straight sets to advance to the quarterfinals of the Miami Open.

Sabalenka defeated her Chinese opponent 6-3, 6-4, setting up a matchup with Haley Baptiste, who knocked out Hezhena Ostapenko on Sunday.

As of 2026, the only loss to the No. 1 player in the world was in the Australian Open final to Jelena Rybakina, and since then Sabalenka has won nine games in a row, including a victory in Indian Wells.

“Right now, I can say I feel about six, seven, seven (out of 10),” Sabalenka told Sky Sports.

“It was a quick transition because I didn’t have a lot of time to prepare as well as I could because of the weather, but I’m happy that I’m feeling better and better with every game I’ve played here.

“I got my rhythm back and my serve came back. I definitely felt a lot better. She’s a fighter. I knew she was going to bring it all until the last point.”

Mira Andreeva vs. Victoria Mboko highlights at the Miami Open

Jessica Pegula defeated Jacqueline Christian 6-4, 6-1 and will face either Rybakina or Talia Gibson.

Meanwhile, Coco Gauff defeated Sorana Cirstea 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 to set up a matchup with the winner of Belinda Bencic and Amanda Anisimova and advance to her first Miami Open quarterfinal.

“I don’t think it had to happen other than to try,” Gauff said after the game. “I think the last time we played here we had some tough games. We probably weren’t there mentally. Today we just wanted to stay there mentally.”

Earlier in the day, rising Canadian star Victoria Mboko advanced to the final eight with a 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-0 victory over Mira Andreeva.

After the Czech defeated Alexandra Eara 6-0, 6-2, she will face Karolina Muchova for a place in the semi-finals.

Medvedev lost to Cerundro

Argentina’s Francisco Cerundro advanced to the fourth round of the men’s draw with a 6-0, 4-6, 7-5 victory over 10th-ranked Daniil Medvedev.

The 27-year-old will next face Hugo Humbert, whom he defeated at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
