Mohamed Salah will leave Liverpool at the end of the season.
Liverpool have announced that they have reached an agreement with the legendary forward, who will end his “amazing” nine-year stay at Anfield at the end of this season and become a free agent.
Salah’s contract, which he only signed in April last year, will be shortened by a year after a difficult season for the 33-year-old, who left the club and had a public falling out with head coach Arne Slott.
The Egyptian, one of Liverpool’s all-time great players, will make his farewell to Anfield on May 24, the final day of the Premier League season against Brentford.
Liverpool said in a statement: “Out of respect and gratitude to our supporters, Salah has expressed his wish to make this announcement to our supporters at the earliest opportunity to provide transparency about his future.”
The 33-year-old, who has won all the top trophies with Liverpool, could add even more silverware before departing with a lot of competition left in this season.
The reigning Premier League champions will face holders Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League quarter-finals and Manchester City in the FA Cup last eight.
Liverpool are also aiming to qualify for the Champions League through league play. Arne Slott’s side are in fifth place, with England still in position to qualify for fifth place with seven games remaining.

“Mohamed Salah’s departure will save Liverpool money. You have to remember his wages. He is said to be the highest-paid player in Liverpool’s history, with some reports saying he earns between £350,000 and £400,000 a week.”
“Salah is still a great player, but has he reached his absolute peak? He’s 33 now and will be 34 in June. Did Liverpool really want to keep paying him that much until the summer of 2027?”
“Behind the scenes, his representatives have held discussions with Liverpool and reached an agreement that is convenient for all parties. This means he can continue to play for Liverpool until the end of the season.”

JG: He’s not the same player from last season. Given the poor performance of slots a few months ago, we think now is the right time. He is a legend of the YNWA club and league.
Steve Eze: The best winger in the league. He broke his league record in four fewer seasons than Wayne Rooney. An absolute phenomenon. I’ll miss you. Form does not last forever, but greatness does. Thank you, Mo, as always.
Andy: Maybe it’s time for Salah to leave at the end of the season, but he will be a big miss for this football club. There will definitely be a need for star additions next season.
