Golf legend Tiger Woods has been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after a rollover crash in Florida on Friday, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office announced.
The accident happened just after 2 p.m. ET on Jupiter Island, where Woods, 50, lives.
No one else was in Woods’ car and there were no injuries in the crash.
Woods was able to crawl out after his car tipped to one side. The scene was safe as of 4 p.m. ET, according to a video shared with CNBC.

“DUI investigators were here and Mr. Woods showed signs of impairment,” Sheriff John Budensiek said during media availability.
“They ran some tests on him. Of course, he described his injuries and the surgeries he had and we took that into consideration, but they did a thorough roadside test and once the results came in, he was arrested and taken to the Martin County Jail,” Budensiek said.
Budensiek said authorities believe Woods was under the influence of drugs or narcotics. Budensiek said he scored 0.00 on a breathalyzer test.
The sheriff said Woods will be held until at least 11 p.m. Friday, after which he will be released after posting bail.
Woods is recovering from various injuries sustained in a 2021 car crash in Southern California. The golf star underwent multiple surgeries after the accident. In October, he underwent surgery to replace a disc in his back.
Vicodin, Dilaudid, Xanax, Ambien and THC were detected in Woods’ system after his 2021 crash. After that incident, he went to a rehab facility for substance abuse treatment.
In May 2017, Woods was found asleep in a damaged car in Florida by police and charged with drunk driving. A month after his arrest, Woods went to a clinic for treatment for prescription painkillers and a sleep disorder.
On Tuesday, Woods made his season debut with TGL Golf, the professional indoor golf league he co-founded with Rory McIlroy. Woods’ team, the Jupiter Lynx, lost 9-2 in his comeback game, but Woods was able to drive over 300 yards.
It is unclear whether Woods will play in the Masters Tournament, which begins April 9 at Augusta National in Georgia.
The five-time Masters champion spoke about his desire to play after competing in the TGL.
“I’ve been trying,” Woods said. “This body isn’t going to recover like it did when I was 24, 25. I want to play. I love tournaments. I’ve loved being there since I was 19. I’m going to play either way.”
But President Donald Trump poured cold water on this during a phone appearance on Fox News on Thursday.
“I love Tiger,” he said. “He’ll be there, but he won’t play there.”
Woods is currently dating Vanessa Trump, President Trump’s former daughter-in-law, who was married to Donald Trump Jr.
On Friday, following reports of the crash, President Trump called Woods a “very close friend.”
“I feel very bad. He’s going through some kind of trouble. There was an accident. That’s all I know,” Trump told reporters. “He’s a great guy, a great guy, but he has some challenges.”
CNBC reached out to the PGA Tour, Woods’ representatives and TGL, but did not receive a response.
