Broadcom agrees to expand chip contract with Google and Anthropic

broadcom On Monday, the two companies announced an agreement to produce future versions of artificial intelligence chips. googleand signed an expansion deal with Anthropic to give the AI ​​startup access to approximately 3.5 gigawatts of computing power powered by Google’s AI processors.

Broadcom shares rose 3% in after-hours trading.

The disclosure in securities filings highlights the surge in demand for infrastructure that can run generative AI models. Anthropic’s popularity has skyrocketed this year, with its Claude app topping the list of free apps in the US. apple’s It was launched on the App Store in February after a dispute between the company and the Department of Defense became public.

On an earnings call last month, Broadcom CEO Hock Tan said “2026 is off to a very good start for Anthropic” in terms of delivering 1 gigawatt of compute from Google’s in-house tensor processing units (TPUs). Broadcom supports Google’s TPU manufacturing.

“In 2027, this demand is expected to surge to more than 3 gigawatts of compute,” he said.

In a post-earnings note, Mizuho analysts led by Vijay Rakesh estimated that Broadcom could earn $21 billion in AI revenue from Anthropic in 2026 and $42 billion in 2027. No amount was listed in Monday’s application.

Meanwhile, Broadcom is also collaborating with Anthropic rival OpenAI on custom silicon for AI. Both model builders currently rely heavily on the following graphics processing units: Nvidia through cloud providers such as Amazon,Google, microsoft. OpenAI also committed to harnessing 6 gigawatts of power. AMD’s GPUs, the first gigawatts are expected to arrive later this year.
