Top 10 things to watch on Monday, April 13th
1. Dow futures are down about 500 points this morning, with WTI crude oil trading above $100 per barrel after President Donald Trump said the United States would close the Strait of Hormuz. Peace talks between Washington and Tehran failed this weekend. Last week I was concerned that the market had become overconfident.
2. In my Sunday column for Investing Club subscribers, I explore three major Wall Street battlegrounds: the Iran war, the software stock crash, and earnings season, with the goal of answering questions on everyone’s minds. “Why are markets so resilient?” The bond market has a lot to do with that.
3. Club name goldman sachs The company reported first-quarter profit that exceeded expectations. Increased investment banking revenue and record stock trading were both highlights. Excellent return on equity. Bond trading was sluggish. Although the stock price is down numerically, it is still very high after rising 16% from its mid-March lows. I’d like to hear about the deal pipeline on a conference call starting at 9:30 a.m. ET.
4. Catastrophic best buy Double downgraded by Goldman Sachs. Analysts switched the retailer from buy to sell and lowered their price target from $76 to $59. They are concerned about the impact of soaring memory prices on computer sales and that consumer electronics products will continue to struggle. Best Buy continues to increase its dividend, but is it sustainable if sales pressure continues?The yield is already 6%.
5. Meanwhile, Goldman has upgraded. williams sonoma Buy from Hold. The stock is down about 14% from its February high, which analysts said is a good entry point. They like West Elm’s steady improvement, with plans to open new stores across its store portfolio and the upcoming relaunch of the university’s decor brand, Dormify. CEO Laura Alber has done a great job here.
6. TD Cowen upgrades Modelo brewery constellation brand Buy from Hold. Analysts expect Constellation’s 2027 guidance, released last week, to be conservative. They also believe this summer’s World Cup will be a sales driver, and said the pressure on Hispanic customers is easing. Will this easing of pressure also benefit the club name? home depot?The parking lot is known to be targeted by ICE.?
7. We don’t see much of this these days. Evercore upgraded a handful of homebuilders, saying much of the bad news about the depressed housing market has already been priced in. This should limit the downside from here. They went to buy from hold pluto group and toll brothers. They also upgraded MascoManufacturer of Behr paint and plumbing products.
8. BTIG begins reporting adobe We affirmed the rating, citing concerns about the long-term trajectory of earnings and profit margins. AI “raises many questions about the future of the creative ecosystem,” the analysts wrote. It’s a great way to put those challenges into writing. Concerns about disruption caused by AI also crushed shares in the club name. sales forcebut I think the risk of Adobe’s business being effectively replaced is greater.
9. Club name starbucks Upgraded from sale to hold at Jeffries. Analysts are becoming more positive on the stock now that Starbucks has completed its China joint venture and its U.S. operations are stabilizing. The stock’s valuation is still a little rich for their liking. I continue to believe in CEO Brian Nicol’s turnaround vision.
10. Citi raised its price target. cummins From $630 to $710 ahead of first quarter earnings. Analysts say the North American truck market is improving, which is good news for heavy-duty engine manufacturers. The Street is a big laggard among these machinery stocks due to its data center buildup. They still cherish it as a name in trucking. same as caterpillar To some extent. Citi increased its PT on Caterpillar from $785 to $905 on the note.
