Google announced Wednesday that it is introducing native Gemini apps for Mac, catching up with rivals like OpenAI and Anthropic that have been offering Mac apps for quite some time.

“Now you can launch Gemini from anywhere on your Mac with a quick shortcut (Option + Space) and get instant help without switching tabs,” Google explained in a blog post. “Whether you’re creating a market report and need to check dates, or creating a budget in a spreadsheet and need the right formula, you can get answers and get right back to work.”

With the new app, you can share anything on your screen with Gemini and get help with what you’re currently looking at, including local files.

For example, if you’re looking at a complex chart, you can ask, “What are the three biggest takeaways here?” and receive an overview.

The app also supports the ability to generate images with Nano Banana and videos with Veo.

Native macOS apps are available globally starting today to all Gemini users on macOS version 15 or later. It can be downloaded from gemini.google/mac.
