Burnley have been relegated from the Premier League and Scott Parker has left the club with immediate effect.

Parker has been in talks with the club about his future after relegation to the Championship was confirmed last week and it has been mutually agreed that the 45-year-old’s time at Turf Moor will come to an end.

Burnley said in a statement: “Scott Parker has resigned as head coach of Burnley Football Club by mutual consent.

“The club would like to put on record its sincere thanks to Scott for his professionalism, dedication and contribution. He leaves with great respect and gratitude to everyone associated with Burnley Football Club.”

“The process to appoint a new permanent head coach for the 2026/27 season has begun.”

Mike Jackson, supported by existing backroom staff, will take charge of Burnley on an interim basis for the final four games of the season, starting with Friday’s game against Leeds, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports (kick-off 8pm).

Friday, May 1st 7:30pm

Kickoff at 8pm

Wales manager Craig Bellamy has already been tipped to take up the vacant role, according to reports. Sky Sports News understands that Bellamy remains fully committed to Wales and is leading them to Euro 2028.

As of now, there has been no contact from Burnley. Bellamy has two years left on his contract with Wales.

He has previously expressed his desire to lead the team at Euro 2028, with the opening match being played at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.

Bellamy had always talked about returning to club management one day, but had never set a deadline.

Parker replaced Vincent Kompany in the summer of 2024 following relegation from the Premier League, and achieved promotion to the top flight in his first year with a 31-match unbeaten run and 30 clean sheets.

During his time at Turf Moor, Parker led the Clarets to a record-breaking season in 2024/25, securing Burnley promotion from the Championship to the Premier League with an incredible 31 games unbeaten and 30 clean sheets.

However, Burnley have been struggling in the Premier League with just four league wins this season and were given an immediate return to the Championship last Wednesday with four games left after losing to Manchester City at Turf Moor.

Speaking after leaving Turf Moor, Parker said: “It has been a great privilege to lead this great club over the past two years. I have enjoyed every moment of our journey together, but I feel now is the right time for both parties to move in different directions.”

“I look back with great pride at everything we achieved during my time at the club, especially the unforgettable 2024/25 promotion season, and it was a real privilege to lead this team into the Premier League.

“I would like to thank Alan and the ownership group for their support during my time at the club. I would also like to thank the wonderful and energetic staff behind the scenes and, most importantly, the players who have given me everything from day one when I arrived.”

“Finally, I would like to thank all the Burnley fans and wish them and this great club all the best for the future.”

The process to appoint Parker’s replacement has begun, but the club has not held any discussions with potential candidates.
