Sir Alex Ferguson was taken to hospital after feeling unwell ahead of Sunday’s match between Manchester United and Liverpool.

The 84-year-old legendary United manager is a regular at the club’s matches, both home and away, and was at Old Trafford to watch the big match between the two Premier League rivals.

Sky Sports News understands he is conscious and has undergone precautionary tests.

Ferguson coached United for 26 years from 1986 until his retirement in 2013, leading them to 13 Premier League titles and two Champions League titles.

He then served as the club’s ambassador until 2025.

During his glittering career, he won 38 trophies with United, three Scottish League titles and four Scottish Cups with Aberdeen.

After playing as a forward, Ferguson was Scottish Division One’s top scorer in 1965/66, before also managing St Mirren and Scotland, including at the 1986 World Cup.

Manchester United’s Michael Carrick wishes good luck to former manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who was taken to hospital for precautionary tests after feeling unwell at Old Trafford.

Carrick backs Sir Alex in hopes of winning

Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick was asked about his former manager after the 3-2 win over Liverpool and said:

“Well, I don’t know the latest news at the moment because I haven’t received any updates. I heard about it before the game, so I knew before the game.

“All I can say is that I wish him well. I am deeply affected by this news and I just hope he is OK. I don’t know the latest, but we hope he is feeling better and we wish him all the best.”

“We certainly think that when he hears about it, we hope the results will give him courage.”
