Tiger Woods is unlikely to play in the U.S. Open or U.S. Senior Open, USGA CEO Mike Wang says Golf News

Tiger Woods is not expected to play in either the U.S. Open or the U.S. Senior Open as he continues to recover, U.S. Golf Association CEO Mike Wang said.

Woods was charged with drunk driving after a car crash near his home in Florida in March and is reportedly undergoing treatment in Switzerland.

When Woods was arrested, police found two prescription opioid hydrocodone pills in his pocket, which Woods used to manage pain after a number of major surgeries.

Woods, who turned 50 in December, has qualified to play on the less physically demanding Champions Tour, and there is speculation that he could aim to play in the U.S. Senior Open at Scioto Country Club in early July, following the U.S. Open in New York in June.

However, Wang feels it is highly unlikely that the 15-time major champion will return for either tournament.

When asked by Sports Illustrated if Woods would play in the U.S. Open at Sinek Hills, he replied:

“It would be great for the event and if he was ready, it would be great for him.

“Obviously, what he’s been through is much bigger than golf. He’s proven before that when he puts his mind to something, he’s good at it.

Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player say they hope Tiger Woods gets the ‘help he needs’ to return to golf after his car accident last month

“I’m sure he has a lot of time to play in the USGA Championship. I don’t think he’s going to play in the 2026 USGA Championship.

“If he ends up playing in the USGA Championship, that would be great. But considering my friend Tiger, that’s not really important to me right now.”
