Rory McIlroy has been grouped with Ryder Cup teammate Jon Rahm and Grand Slam hopeful Jordan Spieth for the first two rounds of the PGA Championship.

A month after successfully defending his title at the Masters, McIlroy will play in the first half of the draw at Aronimink Golf Club, looking to win back-to-back majors.

The world number two will depart on Thursday at 8.40am local time (1.40pm BST) with Spieth, the three-time major champion, aiming to win the Wanamaker Trophy this week and join McIlroy in golf’s Grand Slam club.

Jordan Spieth has a chance to make history at this week’s PGA Championship, but there’s only one major missing from his golf resume.

Two-time major champion Rahm hit the marquee three-ball, joining McIlroy for the first time since the Spaniard agreed to a deal that restores his DP World Tour membership and preserves his future Ryder Cup berth.

Defending champion Scottie Scheffler is on the other side of the tie as he looks to win his fifth major in as many years after winning the PGA Championship and British Open in a dominant 2025.

Scheffler will be joined by Justin Rose, who challenged McIlroy for the win at Augusta National last month, as well as Matt Fitzpatrick, who has won three times on the PGA Tour this season.

Two-time PGA Championship winner Justin Thomas will partner Keegan Bradley, last year’s Ryder Cup captain, and world No. 3 Cameron Young, who won The Players in March and is the highest-ranked player in the world without a major title.

Former major champions Xander Schauffele and Brooks Koepka rode the morning wave alongside England’s Tyrrell Hatton, one of 11 LIV golfers in the field, and broke through the group with a three-ball ahead of McIlroy at 8:29 a.m. local time (1:29 p.m. British time).

The PGA Championship has been won by an American in each of the past 10 years, and golfers from the United States have won 17 of the past 24 men’s major championships.
