Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Tuesday appealed to world leaders at the G7 meeting to help the United States fight Iranian terrorism by “eradicating the financing that props up Iran.”

In a speech at the “Terrorism Doesn’t Need Money” conference in Paris, Bessent laid out new guidelines for imposing “aggressive and targeted” sanctions.

“As the United States targets the financial networks that our adversaries use to carry out terrorism, we believe that joining us here today signals our readiness to cooperate fully,” Bessent said.

“This will require European partners to join the United States in taking action against Iran, for example, by naming Iran’s financiers, unmasking its shell and front companies, closing bank branches, and dismantling its agencies,” he said.

“In short, if you share our outrage over Iran’s destabilizing policies, the terrorists who seek to hold the global economy hostage, the poisoning of communities by drug cartels, and the threat to innocent lives, now is the time to act aggressively with the United States.”
