walt disney’s The Mandalorian and Grogu opens in theaters on Friday, marking the first time in seven years that a new Star Wars movie has hit the big screen.

The film, based on the hit Disney+ show “The Mandalorian,” exceeded initial box office projections, reaching $82 million in domestic ticket sales in its first three days in theaters, according to estimates Sunday. Official numbers will be released on Monday.

“The Mandalorian and Grogu” exceeded the $80 million that most box office analysts had predicted, but has so far fallen short of the $84 million that 2018’s “Solo: A Star Wars Story” earned, according to ComScore data. The film had the worst opening performance of any Star Wars film in the era of Disney’s Star Wars.

Analysts expect the film to gross more than $100 million domestically over the four-day Memorial Day weekend. Internationally, “The Mandalorian and Grogu” generated approximately $63 million in ticket sales.

The film benefited from premium large-format screening, including: IMAX According to EntTelligence data, 41% of tickets were sold at these upgraded and more expensive screenings. Standard movie tickets averaged $16.01 each, while premium tickets averaged $19.43 each, the data firm reported.

However, box office revenue is not the only metric that Disney pays attention to. The company’s strategy doesn’t just rely on ticket sales, it also has other avenues to grow revenue, including merchandise, streaming services and theme parks.

Star Wars generates more than $1 billion in retail sales each year, even when new titles are not released in theaters.

Additionally, The Mandalorian series is the most-watched original show on Disney+, with more than 1.3 billion hours watched worldwide. The release of The Mandalorian and Grogu has seen viewership for the series and other Star Wars titles skyrocket on the platform in recent weeks.

The company has updated the “Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run” ride at domestic theme parks and added a new mission that features Grogu in the cockpit. At the same time, the BDX droid from the movie has reappeared in Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge themed area. Additionally, through a close partnership with developer Epic Games, Fortnite has introduced new environments, characters, vehicles, and purchasable cosmetics for gamers.
