According to a joint statement released Wednesday after the latest round of U.S. mediation, Israel and Lebanon agreed to “implement a ceasefire” with the conditions being a “complete cessation” of Hezbollah shelling and the removal of all Hezbollah operatives from southern Lebanon.

However, Hezbollah is not a party to the deal, and leaders of the Iran-backed militant group have rejected the deal.

The ceasefire agreement comes after the Israeli government threatened to escalate its actions in Lebanon, a move that threatens to derail peace talks between the United States and Iran. The ongoing ceasefire has been repeatedly violated as Israel and Hezbollah continue to carry out attacks.

Meanwhile, the Iranian and U.S. governments have issued conflicting messages regarding the status of their own ceasefire talks. US President Donald Trump claimed on Wednesday that a deal could be reached “by the end of this week,” but Iran’s foreign minister said there had been no “serious process.”

Here are some articles that went viral last week and photos that caught our eye.
