President Donald Trump said Thursday he was “honored” to meet with Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.

The US president said he would meet with Iranian leaders if they reached an agreement to end the four-month-old US-Iran war. President Trump was responding to questions from reporters in the Oval Office after the coal announcement.

“If an agreement is reached, there is a possibility that we will meet,” he said. “That’s fine.”

Khamenei was named Iran’s supreme leader after his father Ali Khamenei was killed on the first day of hostilities.

President Trump said he expected Khamenei to be “professional” despite the deaths of his father and other family members in U.S. and Israeli airstrikes.

“He actually has a very good reputation in some circles,” Trump said.

Recently, mixed messages have emerged from negotiations to end the war, which have disrupted global markets and oil And gasoline prices will rise. Since the start of the war, Iran has largely blocked off the Strait of Hormuz, a key strait that carries about a fifth of the world’s oil.

Gasoline prices nationally averaged about $4.24 per gallon on Thursday, according to AAA.

The conflict has been in a fragile truce for several weeks.

The United States has called on Iran to agree to never acquire nuclear weapons and to immediately open the strait. Iran demands an immediate cessation of hostilities on multiple fronts and the lifting of the U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports.

Iranian state media announced on Monday that Iranian negotiators would halt negotiations and close the strait. And on Wednesday, President Trump said Iran had agreed not to have nuclear weapons.
