Waymo is launching a new subscription tier called Waymo Premier, targeting enthusiasts in some of the robotaxi service’s most popular markets.
of alphabetThe company that owns it said in a blog post Thursday that the plan will cost $29.99 per month and only select passengers in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Phoenix will be invited to start. Subscribers receive priority matching, free cancellation on up to five trips per month, and earn 10% back in loyalty credits (Waymo Cash) on every trip.
“We listened to you and asked how we can provide an even more advanced experience for you, the top rider,” the company said in a post. “By paying a monthly fee, members gain access to a series of exclusive benefits designed to make their journey more seamless and rewarding.”
Waymo has aggressive expansion plans, including an expansion into London later this year, and is particularly looking to tap electricity users in markets where demand is highest. Subscriptions are an important aspect for businesses looking to provide additional revenue streams, bring in external capital and stay ahead of emerging rivals. Amazon Zoox and Tesla.
In the first quarter, losses at Alphabet’s other betting division, including Waymo, widened to $2.1 billion from $1.22 billion a year earlier. The division’s revenue fell from $450 million to $411 million.
Waymo announced in February that it had raised a $16 billion funding round that valued the company at $126 billion, more than double its valuation in October 2024. Alphabet also contributed to the funding, with outside investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Fidelity and T. Rowe Price also participating.
