President Donald Trump said Wednesday that he likes the idea of blaming Vice President J.D. Vance if a deal to end the war with Iran doesn’t work out.
President Trump told reporters at the G7 summit in Evian-les-Bains, France, that he may or may not stay in Europe to sign a memorandum of understanding with Iran.
The president appeared to indicate that the memorandum may not result in a deal to permanently end the conflict with Iran.
“This is a memorandum,” President Trump said. “This is very important, but it may not be the type of document I should sign,” Trump said.
Trump’s comments about Vance came at the end of his press conference with reporters, where he asked Fox News’ Peter Doocy a final question.
Doocy asked, “Why not stay at this Iran peace deal signing ceremony?”
Trump replied, “Maybe.”
When Trump added that the memorandum may not be something he should sign as president, Doocy said, “There’s an element to this of sending the vice president, and if it works, you look like a genius for sending the vice president.”
“If it doesn’t work out, is it the vice president’s fault?” Doocy asked.
“I like that idea,” Trump replied.
“Of course, if this works, I’m going to take the credit. If it doesn’t work, I’m going to blame JD,” Trump said.
“You better watch out, JD. He’s going to turn the plane around and get the hell out of here. Yeah, I like that idea. I think it’s a good idea,” the President said.
