A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a three-year-old boy was seriously injured after being trapped in a crocodile cage at a zoo in central England on Thursday, police said.
Cambridgeshire Police said officers were called to the Johnson’s of Old Hurst zoo near Huntingdon after reports of a boy trapped in an enclosure.
The child was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and is listed in critical but stable condition, police said. A 30-year-old man was arrested.
Detective Inspector Verity McCann said: “At this stage we are speaking to those who were at the zoo at the time of this tragic incident to further understand the circumstances.” “I don’t think the arrested man and the child know each other.”
Mr Johnsons, of Old Hurst, could not be reached for comment. The website said the family farm’s interest in conservation led to its interest in crocodiles.
“We want to continue to develop our crocodile farm here at Johnsons of Old Hurst as part of this great conservation effort,” the website says.
