Alphabet to replace Verizon in Dow Jones Industrial Average

alphabet I will exchange verizon in Dow Jones Industrial Averageand S&P Global on Tuesday announced further expansion of MegaCap Technology’s presence in its blue-chip average.

S&P Global said Google’s parent company’s A shares, which trade under the ticker GOOGL, will be included in its 30-stock index ahead of the start of trading on Monday. The online search giant’s stock rose about 1% after the bell Tuesday following the announcement.

California-based company plans to join mega-cap technology peers Nvidia, Amazon, apple and microsoft Included in blue-chip stock index. S&P Global said the addition of Alphabet will strengthen the Dow’s exposure to themes such as artificial intelligence, cloud infrastructure and advertising.

Alphabet has invested heavily in AI since October, raising $141 billion in debt and equity. The company has been trying to prove that a vertically integrated AI stack can generate profits.

But investors have been fed up lately, with Alphabet ending its worst day on the stock market in more than a year on Monday. The stock underperformed both the Nasdaq and other tech megacaps this session.

Before Alphabet’s collapse, the company was coming off a spring high, when Google had its best month on Wall Street since 2004. That came after Alphabet reported better-than-expected results due to a surge in cloud revenue.

Despite recent volatility, Alphabet’s A shares are up more than 10% in 2026. The stock is on track for its fourth consecutive year of gains and seventh positive year out of the last eight.

Verizon accounted for only about half of the index due to its low stock price, according to S&P Global. The Dow is a price-weighted index.

honeywell international According to S&P Global, the company will remain in the Dow after the Honeywell Aerospace spinoff completes, under the new name Honeywell Technologies. However, the company says that companies that have been spun off will not be included in the index.
