Two weeks after the ban that caused Anthropic to pull its powerful cybersecurity-oriented models, Mythos 5 and Fable 5, from the market, the Trump administration is softening its stance.

Both Semafor and Reuters report that Anthropic currently has permission to make Mythos 5 available to more than 100 specific U.S. government agencies and companies, and that non-U.S. employees of those organizations are also allowed access to the model. The list also includes Anthropic’s non-American employees, who were included in the original ban that prohibited non-Americans from accessing the model.

“We have determined that appropriate safeguards are in place to grant access to the Claude Mythos 5 model to certain trusted partners,” Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick said in a letter Friday to Tom Brown, Anthropic’s chief computing officer, according to a letter seen by Semaphore.

Apparently, the administration did not mention the release of Fable 5 in this directive. This is a version of Mythos 5 that is said to have more protection features and was widely released days before the ban. Both models were removed after security researchers found these guardrails to be easily circumvented. Anthropic did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

“Since June 12, we have been working closely with the U.S. government to restore access to Claude Mythos 5 and Fable 5. Today, the government informed us that we can reintroduce Mythos 5, our strongest cybersecurity model, to a range of U.S. organizations that operate and defend critical infrastructure. We are quickly restoring access to these organizations and continue to work with the government to expand access.” Mythos 5 and make Fable 5 generally available again. ”
