President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social on Monday that he plans to nominate Acting Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling to the permanent position, which would require Senate confirmation.
“Throughout his career, Keith has proven a dedication to delivering strong results for the hardworking people of our country, and I am confident he will do an excellent job in his new role,” Trump said in a social media post.
Sonderling has been acting Labor leader since April after then-Secretary Lori Chavez Delemer resigned amid allegations of misconduct at the department.
Mr. Sonderling has held several positions in the federal government, including during President Trump’s first term. Last year, President Trump selected Mr. Sonderling from the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to be the Labor Department’s chief operating officer.
Mr. Sonderling was confirmed to the post of deputy secretary by a vote of 53-46 in the Republican-controlled Senate.
