Authorities in the wealthy city-state of Monaco have launched an investigation across the border into France after a bomb explosion in a residential building left several people injured.

Monaco’s government said the bomb exploded just before 9pm local time on Monday and the injured, including a child, were taken to a hospital in neighboring France’s Nice.

A man was caught on camera fleeing to the French town of Beausoleil, which borders Monaco, the town’s mayor, Gerard Spinelli, said at a press conference, according to the Associated Press.

According to CNN affiliate BFMTV, about 40 French soldiers and two helicopters were dispatched to assist in the pursuit.

There is almost no violent crime in the Mediterranean city-state of Monaco, which has a population of about 40,000 and is known as a playground for the wealthy.

“All relevant national services are currently being mobilized in close cooperation with the French authorities,” Prince Albert II of Monaco said in a statement.

“We trust them to clarify the circumstances of this tragedy as quickly as possible, identify those responsible and provide all necessary responses at all levels.”
