Riverside, a maker of video and podcast recording tools, is giving users a new way to reach their audience with newsletters.

However, Riverside isn’t aiming to directly compete with established newsletter platforms like Mailchimp, Substack, Beehiiv, and Ghost. Instead, the company recognizes that its user base already generates a lot of content and is offering users of its recording tools an AI tool to turn existing videos and podcasts into newsletters and send them directly from within the app. You can also create and send newsletters from scratch without using the AI conversion feature.

“Substack and Beehiiv “Start with a blank page. But our creators and business customers are already creating rich, informative audio content with Riverside. For most people, speaking is easier and more natural than writing from scratch, and the ideas are already in the conversation, so instead of asking them to start over with another tool, we help them turn the recordings they’ve already created into newsletter-ready content with far less effort.” said Nadav Keeson. Tech Crunch.

The company is also updating its recording suite to support multi-camera recording setups. It also allows users to add remote guests to recordings.

This update also adds new AI features. Using AI, users can draft the first cut as soon as they finish recording, and the assistant can also create hooks and content for various social media platforms. The company is also adding AI video enhancements trained on conversational video podcasts, which it says can improve the lighting, depth, and clarity of recordings.

Riverside, which has raised more than $60 million in funding, joins a number of platforms looking to tap into alternative publishing avenues to diversify or expand their revenue streams. For example, Substack launched a built-in recording studio in March to compete directly with Riverside, and newsletter platform Beehiiv moved into podcasting in April. Social network Mastodon announced in June that it would allow users to publish their posts as newsletters.
