In the latest iOS 27 developer beta, Apple is giving testers an early look at one of the upcoming AI-powered improvements to Siri: the ability to adjust the speed and expressiveness of the AI assistant’s speech. With iOS 27 Beta 3 released today, Apple enabled voice controls for “Pace” and “Expressiveness” that were listed as “Coming Soon” in the initial developer beta release.
The update is part of Apple’s broader effort to rebuild the assistant around generative AI and make Siri more natural and personal. As with ChatGPT and other services that offer voice AI assistants, allowing users to customize AI sounds is an important aspect of connecting people with new technology.
However, ChatGPT’s voice customization options allow users to go even further by adjusting the warmth and enthusiasm of the AI. rolled It will be released in December 2025 with options to configure the base style and tone. The latter allows users to style OpenAI’s assistant to be more friendly, professional, direct, quirky, etc. This is reflected not only in the way ChatGPT speaks, but also in the way information is presented to users.
Siri voice control, first introduced at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 26) in June, allows users to customize their Siri experience, as well as choose a male or female voice assistant. In the future, beta testers will be able to switch between different voices with different accents and use sliders to change how fast Siri speaks and how much human-like emotion its voice conveys.
As you make adjustments, Siri practices saying common things like “I have a new message,” so you get an idea of what different voices sound like.
The AI version of Siri is deeply integrated into updated versions of iOS, allowing iPhone owners to start conversations by speaking, swiping down from the dynamic island at the top of the screen to type, tapping the side button on their phone, or even using the latest standalone Siri app.
iOS 27 Beta 3 also rolls out other minor updates, including an updated icon for the Reminders app. (Note that some X users have also reported that they can’t access the new Siri after the update, or that their phone starts indexing their data again. This is usually the first step in optimizing Siri AI for search.)
