london —

King Charles and Queen Camilla hosted the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet on Friday afternoon at Highgrove House, the King’s private residence in Gloucestershire, England.

It will be the first time in four years that King Charles has met his entire family, as Prince Harry, Duchess Meghan and their children visited the UK to celebrate the late Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee.

Since then, Prince Harry has returned to the UK on short notice several times, most notably to attend his grandmother’s funeral in 2022 and his father’s coronation in 2023. The last known meeting of the duke and his father was for tea at Clarence House in London in September.

Prince Harry, who arrived in the UK on Monday night, is back this time to mark the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games, the Paralympic-style sporting competition for injured servicemen and veterans he founded more than a decade ago, as well as several other charity projects.

CNN previously reported that King Charles’ wife and two children may also join him later this week, as there were hopes the trip would allow him to reunite with his young grandchildren, who are now 7 and 5 years old.

According to CNN, the royal family will not release images or further details of the meeting, given it was a private family event.

British media reported that Meghan and her children were holidaying in Portugal, where they live, ahead of this week’s visit to the UK.

CNN’s Anna Stewart and Lauren Kent contributed to this report.
